8 days in Europe to shoot photos and test equipment is not a bad way to start the spring, and did it ever feel a lot like spring in France & Switzerland when we were there.
This is the view from my hotel room in Engelberg on the first morning.
From the top of the Titles (Engelberg, CH)… it’s a long way down!
Yes, there was some pow around… kinda old and sugary, but still nice & fun!
There was a lot of pollution in Switzerland and France. They needed some storms badly!
Onto the French Alps… After a day of providing feedback to various Salomon peeps, we were back in the mountains. This time to test ski, boots, and bingings. This means lots more skiing!
Just about every condition you could ask for was available to test the gear on.
We spent 1 day at St. Foy and 1 day at Val d’Isere testing prototypes. Although most of Europe is having an awful winter, there was still some excellent skiing to be found! Of course the views alone are worth the trip. Big thanks to Salomon for creating such an event for all of us to come together and get down to the nitty gritty.

Sometimes you find snow that is way deeper than you expect. This is what I found here. The wind was pretty strong as I traversed out to North Baldy at Snowbird. It looked like it was getting deposited along this ridge so I dropped in and hoped for the best.

I’ve been skiing 184cm for a little over a month now. It is blowing me away how fun and easy this ski is. I should have the 192s soon. The lightness and profile of this ski makes it a no brainer to become my full time backcountry ski as well. More details to come.

The day before Christmas was a pretty epic. We were at Snowbird early and watched the control work produce these massive avalanches. These unsupported and wind loaded slopes ripped out huge! Such a force of nature to behold. Later we went Alta and I skied a line down Wolvy. At the bottom a voice came over the radio saying something about going huge like Jamie Pierre… of course it was Pierre himself. I was stoked to see him and glad get some vid of him ripping the pow!

The month is not even over and already its got the most December snowfall ever recorded in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The latest December gift package came in at roughly 70″ of the white stuff. It began on the 17th, and continued for 7 days of steady southern flow.
Everyone was stoked for the storm.
Afternoon hiking.
From the chair we watched people getting theirs:
We would get ours too:
By the Final day people were starting to dig out:
I wasn’t able to ski every day of the storm, but by moving my office closer to the slopes I managed to get my fill.
The morning of the 8th day was Christmas Eve, it ended up going blue!
It was a good day to go to Snowbird. Here’s Sage throwing a 3 just after sunrise. Nice looking snow eh?
I finished the day with a run down Wolvie. Jamie Pierre rolled up and took himself a nice run as well. It felt like old times being out at Wolverine, and it had been a great storm cycle!

Before driving to socal for thanksgiving I was able to get a nice morning in at Alta. I hope I didn’t make anyone sick with the fastfwd footage, I guess if you’re gonna shoot a time lapse style shot its best to keep the camera (in this case my head!) as still as possible.

These are the resort days that really get you into shape… crowds are low because its a freaking blizzard out there… gonna be sore tomorrow.
This was the first day I filmed with my Contour HD pointing at me. I used the handlebar mount to attach the cam to my pole. not a bad first effort I guess, but I think it needs to be a little wider angle.

What a morning! I’ve been waiting 5 long months to ski some pow… such a nice early season treat! Of course big thanks to the best ski photographer in the world for letting me post these pics!
